Associate Professor Dionne Pohler has been appointed as a vice-chair of a task force recently launched by the Canadian Minister of Labour, Filomena Tassi, to conduct "the most extensive review of the Employment Equity Act since its introduction."
The task force will be chaired by Adelle Blackett (Professor and Canada Research Chair in Transnational Labour Law and Development at McGill University Faculty of Law). Professor Pohler will be joined as vice-chair by Marie-Thérèse Chicha (Professeure titulaire, Faculté des arts et des sciences - École de relations industrielles, Université de Montréal). The task force's thirteen members include CIRHR PhD alumnus Tony Fang (CIRHR PhD 2004; Professor of Economics and the Stephen Jarislowsky Chair in Cultural and Economic Transformation at Memorial University of Newfoundland.)
Operating at arm’s length from the Government, the task force will study the Employment Equity Act and consult with stakeholders, communities and Canadians on issues related to employment equity, and make concrete, independent and evidence-based recommendations to the Minister of Labour on how to modernize the Act.
Canadians and stakeholders are invited to visit the Employment Equity Act Review Task Force webpage for more information. They can also share their views on the review of the Act by email at EDSC.LEE-EEA.ESDC@labour-travail.gc.ca.
