Frank Reid Stepping Down from Graduate Coordinator Role on June 30th

May 31, 2024 by Andy Vatiliotou

Frank Reid, Professor Emeritus and former CIRHR Director, will be stepping away from his post as Associate Director and Graduate Coordinator after 10 years of dedicated service. As many of you already know, it's an enormous privilege to work alongside him, and we're most grateful that he will continue teaching at the Centre, and sharing his knowledge and expertise with our students. On behalf of our CIRHR faculty, staff, and students, past and present, we extend our deepest thanks to Frank for his friendship, guidance, and his tireless commitment to our community.

We asked Frank to reflect on his tenure, and these are just a few of the thoughts (and words of thanks) that were top of mind for him while commemorating this milestone:

Photo of Frank ReidAfter ten years as Associate Director and Graduate Coordinator of the MIRHR program, I’ll be stepping down from the position on June 30th and Hua Wang will be taking it on. It’s not fashionable at the University to say that you enjoy administrative work, but I confess that it’s been a privilege to serve in that position -- I found it stimulating and rewarding (not to mention time-consuming!) to be involved in the academic life of such a fine group of graduate students. The scope of the job includes admissions, allocating merit and needs based awards, scheduling courses, hiring stipend instructors, dealing with students and faculty on a multitude of academic issues, stretching all the way to convocation (where I have sat on the stage many times proudly watching MIRHR students receive their degrees).

I’ve also been fortunate to work with such a dedicated and talented group of staff and colleagues. In particular, I want to thank Carol Canzano-Hamala, with whom I’ve worked very closely on all aspects of the Graduate Coordinator job. Carol has always gone well above the call of duty in her dedication to the MIRHR students and program, and she is much loved and appreciated by the students and faculty at the Centre. Amazingly, she has made my time in the Grad Coordinator role fun! I know that the MIRHR program will be in very good hands as Hua Wang takes over as GC, and Hua will be in very good hands working with Carol!
